Krakow - Poland March 2022

Wieliczka Salt Mine.

On Matts Birthday, we decided to take a tour of the Wieliczka Salt Mine.

Situated in the town of Wieliczka, 18km from Krakow, this UNESCO world heritage site is truly amazing and definitely somewhere to visit.

On our way

Off to the Wieliczka Salt Mines for my Birthday. Can’t wait to explore. 42mins on the 304 bus first

Going down?

After climbing down 320 wooden steps, we reached 64 metres below ground. And our tour began.

A Church underground

St Kingas Chapel is 101m below ground and is breath-taking. I couldn't believe the sheer size of this place.

Tasted Yuck!

The water running underground here is almost 100% salt. We were asked to taste and it was YUCK!!

Huge Lakes Underground

Far underground there are huge lakes. Eerie, still and almost clear, these lakes are beautiful. don't fall in though.

Enourmous Staircase.

In the mine on the tour, you come across a grand wooden staircase with beautiful chandeliers. You're not allowed to climb them though.

Deep weddings

If you would like, you, can get married 125m underground in the magnificent Warszawa Chamber. She is huge at 680m2.

Not if you in a hurry...

We were asked to follow our guide to the way out... we were at 135m underground and we walked, and walked and walked. It took 20 mins and was 1km... to the exit!!

Back on the surface.

After 2 hours, hundreds of steps and may, many km. We were back on the surface. This is an amazing tour and well worth the entrance fee.
