Sagrada Familia

Barcelona - November 2021

One of our favourite cities in the world - The amazing Barcelona.

Our niece Charlotte had completed her A levels so we decided on a little trip.

We stayed in a beautiful apartment in the shadow of La Sagrada Familia.

Come and explore with us.

Leaving Home

Every journey starts with a ferry ride. 1hr of peace and floating along then finding a stray in Southampton.

02

Foggy London

London looked amazing this evening with the buildings illuminating the mist on Threadneedle Street. The city always has something new to see every time you come.

Post Covid Travel

Everyone is now wearing masks but the transport system is working well and we have a really easy journey today. Albeit that we seem to arrive everywhere out of breath and with 2 minutes to spare...

04

Glad to be back on the Tube.

We are all so happy to be zipping around our capital city on the tube again. Such an amazing transport network. Off to Liverpool Street we go.

Off to the airport...

Breakfast was had and then off to the airport. This was our first Covid flight so we were not sure what to expect but we were very excited about our trip to Barcelona.

Felices fiestas a todas.

06

As close to Heaven as it gets...

Even for the non believers, this must be as close as it gets to Heaven?

07

Hopping on the Metro

Jumped on the L9 to Collblanc and then the L5 into the city centre. 21 Euro (£18) for 3 days unlimited travel. There is 4G and the trains are really clean and comfortable.

St Josephs Market

The St Josephs market on La Rambla is a sight to behold. Built in 1840, there has actually been a market here since the 1200's. They added the roof in 1914 and you can buy every type of food here. Whether it be dinner or a snack you are looking for then this market is well worth a visit.

Swim anyone?

Barcelona has a beach!!!

Hiding the other side of the marina is a large beach with amazing golden sand.

There are outdoor gyms and volleyball nets for all to enjoy.

Well worth a visit with plenty to do and food to eat along the promenade.

Parc de la Ciutadella.

A short walk from the Gothic quarter brings you to this amazing place. Within the Parc is "Gaudi's Fountain" It was created in the mid 19th century and was once the cities only green space. A truly fantastic place to walk, takes photos and just admire the splendour.

Nope we haven't warped to Paris... this is truly a sight to behold.

Another stunning piece of architecture in Barcelona.

A short stroll up to the Castell de Monjuic, wee i say short, its not for the feint hearted. The funicular railway takes you to about halfway and then you can either take the cable car (if you don't have Matt with you) or the 150 bus (if you don't have Charlotte with you) otherwise (our only option) is the steps..... lots and lots of steps. incredible view though!!

The Gothic Quarter

We took a guided tour of the Gothic Quarter as an experience. We learned about the influences of the Romans, Spanish and Europeans. We learned about Catalonian food, drink and customs.

The "Tiny Church"

We spent a fabulous 2 hours in the Sagrada Familia Basilica today. Everything about this building is breath-taking and magical from the facades to the forest to the the amazing light inside. This building will change your life.

16

La Monumental

This fantastic and huge building was the last bull fighting ring to operate in Barcelona. Bull fighting was made illegal in Spain in 2011 and this building became an outdoor venue for sports and music.

Placa de Sant Felip Neri

On the 30th January 1938 a bomb was dropped on this small square in Barcelona. The square had a school in it and children were out playing. 42 people lost their lives. A very sad place.
