26, Rialto Bridge

Venice - Italy

Stop 15 on our trip

This place holds a special place in our hearts as we honeymooned here 20 something years ago as broke newly weds.

We are so pleased to be back here again and exploring properly.

Come and explore with us.

01

11, Doges Palace Ceiling

Doge's Palace.

Built in 1340 and formerly the seat of the Venetian Government this stunning Palace is all the things palatial and shiny. From the room of mirrors to the gold ceilings you will be in total awe.

02

The Bridge of Sighs.

The prisoners were reputed to have crossed this bridge on the way to prison from court.
The prisoners had quite large cells though although the doors were huge!
Very impressed with how preserved it all this.

St Marks Square.

Piazza San Marco is the principal public square of Venice. Come here for expensive food and drinks, entertainment and the pigeons. When the tide comes in the water comes up through the floor of the square leaving you covered in pigeons in a warm puddle. Happy days.

04

Rialto Bridge.

Constructed in 1588 this is the oldest bridge across the Grand Canal and is a beautiful example of Renaissance architecture. Very busy with tourists but a must see in Venice.

08, Honeymoon Hotel

05

Honeymoon Hotel.

After more than 20 years my very clever husband said "you just turn right out of St marks Square and then over a bridge and its there" and there it was... this is where 2 very skint newlyweds first found Venice.

06

Gondolas.

A visit to Venice is supposed to be topped with a ride in one of these magical boats... we couldn't afford it 20 years ago and wouldn't pay the 80 Euro now so... no ride for us but they are pretty to look at.
