St Peters Basilica

Absolutely stunning, the 2nd building as the first was removed and this one replaced it. Very excited to see Michelangelos Peter. The Altar cover is made of 600 tons of bronze and is designed to draw the eye when you enter. 147 Popes are buried here. Well worth a visit

02

The Swiss Guard

A military unit established in 1506. They are responsible for protecting the Pope. They are personal escorts and watchmen for Vatican City.

Their uniform is stunning.

The Popes Balcony

Known as The Blessing Lodge. If the Pope is in Rome he steps out onto the balcony to deliver the Angelus Address.

Maps

The walls leading to the Sistine Chapel are lined with wonderful art including The Gallery of Maps. A series of painted topographical maps of Italy. A truly wonderful sight.
